As part of our growth, we are seeking a Director – Technology Operations to support our trading and operations department with its daily functionality and process.

Position Overview:

  • The Director – Technology Operations will play a key role in facilitating daily technology oriented duties supporting CIX trading and operational processes.
  • You will work closely with the head of trading and operations, as well as CIX’s primary technology providers and additional third party vendors, to ensure the trading operation is fully optimized.
  • The ability to support extended market hours for trading and client service support is essential, where the opportunity to work in a hybrid capacity, or remote, is supported in this role for this purpose.

Key Responsibilities:

Market Operations – Technical Support:

  • Problem solve within the trading and operations department regarding technical client onboarding and support, certifications and FIX protocol connectivity requirements
  • Contribute with regulatory, compliance and operational technology support ensuring trade reporting and post-trade workflow processes are optimal
  • Monitor system administration health and work within the trading and operations department on managing trading sessions and providing technical updates as required

QA Testing:

  • Support quality assurance testing on trading technology platform enhancements and future functionality modifications within the trading and operations team as needed

Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Monitoring:

  • Lead technology specific disaster recovery responsibilities within CIX business continuity planning procedures
  • Contribute with business continuity plan testing and provide technical input on recommended updates

Network & Infrastructure support:

  • Troubleshoot connectivity issues with clients, technology partners and third party providers on CIX data centre issues and network related support
  • Identify and escalate technical related issues for quick resolution with technology providers and vendor relationships

Client Service:

  • Support daily client inquiries and trade support troubleshooting that have been escalated within the equity marketplace operations department
  • Service general technology-operational inquiries in a timely manner, ensuring a premier client experience
  • Manage new and existing clients technical onboarding, certification and FIX connectivity
  • Flexible to work extended hours supporting CIX extended market hours service offering

Project Management:

  • Maintain technology oriented project management initiatives while ensuring timely and successful outcomes are achieved
  • Other duties as assigned, supporting CIX general business development and objectives

Experience:

  • Experience within Canadian equity marketplace operations, marketplace vendors supporting Canadian financial markets, or a CIRO member broker dealer servicing retail or institutional clients in a technology focused support role
  • Experience supporting technical FIX specification and business requirements within order connectivity and/or order management systems
  • Experience within quality assurance testing, network support, system administration and application support governance
  • Experience with disaster recovery and business continuity planning for technical support

Skills:

  • Ability to handle escalated technical inquiries requiring urgent care and troubleshooting technical and/or market operational issues that may overlap with general technical support
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong understanding of technical issues that arise within network support, infrastructure and systems application support
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and communication skills

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Canadian Securities Course and additional continuing education courses offered through the Canadian Securities Institute are an asset

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Experience within Canadian equity marketplace operations, marketplace vendors supporting Canadian financial markets, or a CIRO member broker dealer servicing retail or institutional clients in a business operations, customer service and/or technology support role.
  • Experience supporting and modifying technical FIX specification and business requirements within order connectivity and/or order management systems.

Skills:

  • Ability to handle client inquiries relating to Canadian equity market structure, defining order types, and troubleshooting technical or market operational issues.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong understanding of market structure, trading systems, and financial instruments such as equities, derivatives, fixed income, and/or digital assets.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and communication skills.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Canadian Securities Course and additional continuing education courses offered through the Canadian Securities Institute are an asset.

Summary

The Director Business Strategy will play a key role in driving CIX’s growth and expansion. This role will be responsible for conducting business analyses, developing financial models, and supporting the leadership team in making strategic data driven decisions. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities, develop business cases, and execute with the goal of building an innovative Canadian equity trading market.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Development

  • Develop and present data-driven business cases and strategies aligned with company objectives.
  • Conduct market research to identify trends, opportunities, and risks.
  • Define, track, and report on success metrics for key initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the executive team on strategic priorities.
  • Develop business strategy and supporting materials for new offerings.

Reporting and Analysis

  • Develop detailed strategies that support corporate strategy and board reporting.
  • Provide insightful financial and business analysis to leadership, including business case discovery, risk assessments, and identification of opportunities.
  • Lead financial reporting by collaborating with the CFO and finance team.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in investment banking, strategic consulting, or a similar analytical role.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial modeling and reporting.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Strategy, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
  • CPA qualification is a plus.
